Aged 30, João Signorini started sailing the Optimist class in Rio de Janeiro when he was 8. He then moved to Europe class and later on to Laser. In 2002, after completing his degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering, he started his Olympic campaign in the Finn class. In 2004 he represented Brazil at the Athens Olympics and after that Torben Grael invited him to be part of the sailing team in Brasil 1 at the VOR 2005/2006.
